Children

Interesting
Emily started her life in Devon and trained to be a milliner. By 1870 she was in Wolverhampton marrying Charles. What sparked the move? Also there is a big gap between the birth of Alice and Emily - why was that? Also I cannot find Emily and the children on the 1881 census. Charles is a lodger at a common lodgers place in Wolverhampton so where was the rest of the family? By 1891 Charles is a pauper in the Wolverhampton Union Workhouse. To make the mystery deeper children are still being born to Emily up until 1888. Do these children belong to Charles? To make things worse, in 1891 Emily lists herself as a widow on the census but Charles is still alive at this point.

Interesting
In 1861 Benjamin is living with his grandparents in Wolverhampton but the document does not indicate if one of the sons is Benjamin's father. Then in 1871 Benjamin is living with a relative possibly an uncle. By 1881 Benjamin has made the move to Birmingham where he appears to stay until his death. Although Ann and Benjamin married in 1879, they do no appear together on a census until 1901. Saying that I have yet to find them including their on the 1891 census - the family appears to disappear. I wonder why the separation at the start of the marriage. The 1881 census shows Benjamin in Birmingham and Ann in West Derby.

Jane had one listed occupation as a clerk in a milliners works.
Jane died between October - December 1899 in West Derby, Lancashire. She was 54 years old.
No evidence of burial found yet.

Children
None

Interesting
It appears that Jane never left home (so to speak). She always lived with a member of the family - usually her parents. However, she spent some time living with her brother William Henry. I wonder why she never left or became independent. The last census she was recorded on was 1891 and then she lived alone and had an occupation. Why was she so dependent on others?

Charles St Aubin (1844)

No evidence of burial found yet.

Children

Interesting
Frederick always listed his occupation as locksmith apart from on the 1871 census where he states he is a commercial traveller. Why the change? Frederick lived in Wolverhampton for the majority of his life but by the 1881 census had relocated to Islington. Again, why the change of location? Also he never married or had children.

Elizabeth Sarah Bamford (1837-????)

The Basics
Elizabeth was born between October - December 1837 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England.
No evidence of baptism found yet.

Henry Charles (1862-1866)
Alice Jane (1864-1866)
Frederick (1866)
Ellen (1868-????)
William Henry (1871-1952)

Interesting
Although born in Wolverhampton, Elizabeth spent her early years in Codsall living with her mother, grandparents and aunts/uncles. There is no evidence of her father and by the 1851 census her mother has disappeared (so assuming died). After marrying William, they spent some time in Wolverhampton before moving to Walsall. Was this her final resting place like William? 1866 must have been a tough year. Between October - November, William and Elizabeth buried Henry Charles, Frederick and Alice Jane.

Interesting
What strikes me about Ann is that from two marriages there appears to be no children. Also she was always keen to use St Aubin rather than just Aubin. Most of her life was spent in Wolverhampton with some time spent in Kings Norton and West Derby. Sometime after the death of Charles, she moved back to Wolverhampton where she eventually died.

Interesting
William spent the majority of his life in Wolverhampton but spent the last few years of his life in Walsall. What was behind the move and also change of occupation from lock maker to pattern maker? Also on the 1881 census it lists Cath Carter - Aunt - who was she?

Interesting
Frederick is a still an unknown. I discovered his existence on the 1841 census living with his parents in Shrewsbury. On the census it does list an occupation but it is quite difficult to read. It looks like the letters M.D. Also it lists his birthplace as foreign.

Children

Interesting
On the 1841 census, Jane's location of birth is listed as foreign however this changes to Wolverhampton on the 1851 census. Hence there is some uncertainty about her birth place.

Children

Interesting
The story starts and ends here with Charles. Rumour is he was a british subject that escaped France before the revolution but I have yet to find any dates to help confirm when this might of been. His son Charles David was baptised on 6 July 1817 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England so he had moved his family by this point. By 1841 he had moved to Shrewsbury with Jane and Frederick but was back in Wolverhampton by 1851 according to census data.

Louisa is still a bit of an enigma to me at the moment. I found her by chance when looking through the St Peters baptism records. This is the only evidence I have of her existence. Was she born in Wolverhampton or abroad? What happened to her?

Charles's occupation was a lock manufacturer.
Charles died between April - June 1883 in West Derby, Lancashire, England. He was 70 years old. No evidence of burial found yet.

Children

Interesting
Charles spent the majority of his life in Wolverhampton but spent the last few years of his life in West Derby. What inspired this move when it is clear from the 1871 census that he had a successful lock manufacturing business? All his children were born to Elizabeth, he had none with Ann. There is a 5 year gap between Charles's birth and baptism, why was that? Was Charles in fact born in Wolverhampton? On the 1871 census it states his niece Eliza Morris was at the property, so whose daughter is she?

William Alfred (1879-????)
Mary (1881-????)
Beatrice (1883-????)
Lily Ellen (1884)
John (1888-????)

Interesting
What I want to know is what happened between Charles and Emily between the 1871 and 1881 census. In 1881 Charles is found to be a lodger at a common lodgers place in Wolverhampton and by 1891 he is a pauper in the Wolverhampton Union Workhouse. To make the mystery deeper children are still being born to Emily up until 1888. Do these children belong to Charles? To make things worse, in 1891 Emily lists herself as a widow on the census but Charles is still alive at this point. No love lost there! What unfortunate events took place for Charles to end up a pauper? His other brothers (William Henry and Frederick) were also locksmiths but appeared to be successful.
